1. SUBSEA LAKES AND RIVERS
A group of speleologists-lovers discovered a river in Mexico, along which the streams flowed unhurriedly, and along the banks grew trees, moss, and other plants. Incredibly, the river does run underwater. This is due to the fact that river water is a mixture of salt water and hydrogen sulfide, which is denser than seawater, and therefore settles on the bottom, forming a kind of boundary separating the underwater kingdom from that flowing along its bottom of the river.

This lake, thick, is home to tons of seaweed. It is a large lagoon of 3 km², which is called Retba and is located in Senegal. Its color is due to a cyanobacterium, a microscopic organism that produces, especially in dry wind, a red pigment to resist the concentration of salt.
